The Dean's Award must first have been obtained.

The candidate should choose and prepare the following:

  1. Two anthems, one from list A and one from list B. Candidates may sing the part of their choice.
    Candidates will be required to sing a second part during a section of one of the anthems.

  2. A psalm of at least eight verses and the Gloria. Only Anglican chant or plainsong will be accepted.

  3. The candidate will be required to sing unaccompanied at first sight part of an unknown psalm to a familiar chant.
    It is assumed that candidates will use the same chant as has been used for the prepared psalm.

  4. The candidate will be provided with a previously unknown anthem and the examiners will assess the candidate's speed of learning. For a few bars the candidate may be asked to sing a different part.

  5. The examiners may ask the candidate questions:-
    • on technical matters arising from any of the music sung (e.g. key, time signature, etc.)
    • relating to worship in the candidate's own church.

  6. The candidate will be asked questions on appropriate hymns or anthems for seasons of the church year.

  7. The examiners will require the candidate to respond to aural tests, including singing the notes of two- and three-note chords and singing or clapping phrases after they have been played twice on the piano.
